Prejudice of Media

In the name of Allaah, Most Beneficent and Most Merciful

The media, which is in the control of private companies, shows great prejudice and bias towards minorities especially muslims when reporting any criminal or terrorist act. When the perpetrator of the act is a muslim or has a muslim name, it is almost immediately flashed across the media as an act of an Islamic terrorist. It is even done sometimes, when the perpetrator is not even known, just on the basis of suspicion. But when the same act is done by a person from the majority, say a white guy who is christian in faith, then it is reported as just another criminal act. Neither that person’s race nor religion is relevant anymore when reporting the criminal act.

When the muslims follow the main stream media, they are subjected to so much anti-islamic/anti-muslim views and opinions that doubts arise in the hearts of a muslims about Islam. Doubt is the anti-thesis of faith. Doubt destroys the belief of the muslim.  The conviction of the muslim in his/her faith decreases and ceases to exist after constant exposure of media. This is very evident by the apologetic talk and behaviour of many muslims who are ardent followers of this media. They are always sorry for being a muslim.

Muslims must stop trusting the media and be aware of this prejudice that exists. Many muslims have felt a surge in their faith just by stopping to watch the news and have felt comfortable practicing Islam. As muslims we must strive to change the perception of Islam and muslims among people by being a practicing muslim overselves.
